Whole brain learning indicates that a greater portion of our brain is used in processing information than in our current academic practices of total left brain or linear information processing. Our theatre exercises compliment one-sided linear thought patterns by using different modes of perception in the learning process.
Exercises incclude creating new scenarios, inventing dialog, rhyming, games, puzzles, problem-solving, crafting, doodling, music and movement. The use of the arts in learning leads to whole brain learning. We put the multiple intelligence concept into practice and focus on using all our intelligences.
The theatre space requires a small user fee from the visitor. Enrolled students have a separate theatre space in the Learning Center at their disposal as part of the course assignments.
Theatre exercises are organized in broad general areas of skills development:
- Communication skills
- Thinking skills (puzzles, including math)
- Language skills (word plays, dialog, poetry)
- Think in movement
- Speak with color
- Music: listening and performing (rhythm exercises)
- The Multiple Intelligence Game (solitaire version)
Here is our free exercise example:

- make a list of words describing actions in interpersonal communication. Check with our list.
- what communication skills (actions) does each character in the story reveal, and what is learned? Check with our assessment.
- elaborate on the learning of your favorite character in the story (one paragraph - you might want to share it with us)
- self-test:
Take our word list of actions in communication and attach a value of 10 to each word.
Answer the following three questions:
- Which action words describe best your reaction to a person you have just met?
- Which action words describe best your reaction to a person you have just met over the phone or the Internet?
- Which action words describe best your long-term communication pattern in a business or personal relationship?
You may use as many words in each question as applicable; you may repeat words but only count them once.
Your score will reveal your level of assessing and using interpersonal communication skills. |
