Doheny-Farina, Stephen. Rhetoric, Innovation, Technology: Case Studies of Technical Communication on Technology Transfers. Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press. 1992.

Rhetoric, the art of oratory, i.e., speaking effectively, is one of the main factors that will determine the success of technology transfer, the art of taking research results obtained in a laboratory through the production process into the marketplace. If persons responsible, cannot explain, either verbally or in writing, how a process works, how a product, shipped in parts, is put together, why a loan or grant is needed for further development, how instructions are translated correctly and lucidly from one language into another, then the successful exploitation of research and the marketing of fine products can be jeopardized. All these questions are addressed in this book, which is 'must-reading' for anybody involved in any aspect of the technology transfer process.
