Research at the Center is based on the learning theories developed by its founder, Prof. Reuven Feuerstein. He discovered that standard IQ tests given to young survivors of the Holocaust did not reflect the true states of their development and could not be used as valid indicators for their actual learning potential. These insights led to the formulation of the Feuerstein theories of 'Structural Cognitive Modifiability' and 'Mediated Learning Experience' and a definition of 'intelligence' as 'the capacity of the individual to use previous experience in his adaptation to new situations.' Put into practice, these insights resulted in the 'Learning Propensity Assessment Device' and the 'Instrumental Enrichment Program' , the first 'a dynamic, interactional method of assessing the capacity of an individual to learn' and the second 'to teach individuals the thinking skills needed in order to learn'.
